By law, a parent is the natural guardian of his or her child until that child is 18. Once the child is 18, a parent or sibling, or another potential guardian must petition the Surrogate's Court to grant guardianship status over the adult with disabilities. ARC assists families in completing the paper work necessary to petition for legal guardianship. No fee for ARC of Rockland Guardianship Workshops.

I recently attended this workshop and was able to complete the necessary paperwork without hiring an attorney. - Jackie Curtiss
